SCARY BIKERS

A comedy/drama by top UK writer John Godber

March/April 2019

'Actors Loveday Smith and Mark Winstanley excel…'
Arts Talk Magazine

‘makes you laugh out loud…humane, funny and perceptive two-hander’ - ★★★★ - Michael Billington, The Guardian

A comedy/drama about life, love and staying on your bike by John Godber, one of the UK's most performed playwrights. QE2’s touring production opened in the Netherlands just as it is also transferring into London’s West End.

‘breezy but keenly observed comedy’ - ★★★★ - The Stage

'Two excellent, often moving performances portraying the growing tender relationship between two lost souls who find solace, if not comfort, on the saddles of a bicycle made for two.'
Michael Hasted - Arts Talk Magazine

When retired miner Don (Mark Winstanley) and former teacher Carol (Loveday Smith) meet it looks like a new beginning. But a bike ride through Europe tests their budding romance. It’s second time around for recently bereaved Carol and Don. But the road to love proves rocky when they find they are on opposite sides of the fence over Brexit!

‘Jam-packed with gags and emotion…evokes a deep sense of comfort… of what it means to be British.’ - ★★★★ - London Theatre 1

'There were moments when we laughed out loud, and moments when we were moved to tears. Mark [Winstanley] and Loveday [Smith] did a brilliant performance…' - Dana Marin, Amsterdamian

QE2 is an offshoot of QETC, whose 2018 all-male The Importance of Being Earnest was a huge sellout and critically acclaimed show, and which is coming back in November 2019

Meet the Bikers

QE2 is the touring arm of QETC. It brings together the talents of West End actress Loveday Smith and QETC’s artistic director, Mark Winstanley. Their goal is to bring thought-provoking English-language theatre to audiences in Amsterdam and beyond.
